As a music teacher, I find recitals and other performance opportunities to be such an important part of the learning process for students. In the age of social media musicians who perform alone to a backing tracks from their bedroom or apartment (some of them play incredibly by the way), I think it is especially important for aspiring musicians today to have live performance experience. There are so many benefits- preparing a piece of music for live performance, playing with other musicians, dealing with nerves and stage fright, learning to recover from mistakes, experiencing the interaction with an audience.
On June 6th, 2025, Jesse Andreasen Studios had another great recital featuring a dozen or so of my current students. A special thank you to the Amherst Middle Schol for renting us the space for this year’s recital. This was especially meaningful because this was the stage I first started performing music on decades ago!
This year’s performance featured a variety of music- from Bach to the Beatles, 70’s soul to 90’s rock. I’m so proud of all of my participating students and so grateful for the assitance I had from our backup musicians and other helping hands. Here’s a short medley of footage captured by members of the audience. It’s worth noting that playing music with others is also a great opportunity for inter-generational collaboration. Depending on the song, the ages of people on stage ranged from those born in the last decade to people born in the 60’s. Congratulations and nice job to everyone who performed in this year’s recital, I’m already eager to start planning the next one!
